April Update & Introducing La Monella

Greetings to all of our fantastic subscribers!

Its great to have the opportunity to touch base and chat about Vintage 2020. One that certainly will go down in the books, not only for obvious reasons but, thankfully, also for the quality – the best that I have seen for a very long time. Phew!

Some good news... We really have been blessed by Mother Nature with near perfect conditions – no rain events, perfect ripening of fruit, cool nights and bright sun.. all of the things that make the air fresh, the fruit bursting with flavour, and the resulting wines full of personality.

Hopefully you are all coping and doing well despite these very testing times that are upon us. Simon and I certainly feel very blessed to be living in New Zealand - and actually even more so on our ‘Isolation Island’ of Waiheke... Our wee girls are loving the extra time at home with Mum and Dad, and Mum and Dad have been enjoying cooking up a storm and getting stuck into the cellar in the evenings... Drinking those ‘rainy day’ wines...that have now turned into ‘rainy week’ wines.

We hope you, your family and friends all stay well and healthy.

La Monella is our range of wines that are made from grapes that come from organically and biodynamically managed vineyards, made in a natural manner; natural fermentation, no new oak, little or no sulphur added, and never ltered or ned. Natural wines, that are born from impeccable vineyards, and o er a thrilling, drinking experience. Previously only sold in many of New Zealand’s great restaurants, we have now opened them up for delivery to your home.

La Monella Bianco 2019

Organic White Blend, Marlborough

$30.00

A playfully bad girl, un-conforming, wild and natural, La Monella is an organic natural white blend of Pinot Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc and Riesling. Naturally fermented, and left in old oak french barrels for 7 months, the wine was bottled without filtration or fining. A delicious, generous wine o ering tropical and white ower notes underpinned by a lovely citrus acidity.

La Monella Rosso 2019

Bio-dynamic Pinot Noir, Central Otago

$40.00

Pure un-adulterated Central Otago Pinot Noir, farmed bio-dynamically and made in a very sympathetic natural manner. Handpicked, with a portion transferred, stems and all to an Italian, clay amphora where the grapes were left to ferment naturally. Aged gracefully over 9 months, it was bottle unfiltered and un ned with a tiny amount of sulphur. Highly floral and mineral, this is Central Otago Pinot Noir undressed, exhibiting its natural nature from the schist soils it derives from. Vibrant, expressive, chalky, and seductive with delicious 'juicidity'.

You may not be aware that we also import wines from around the world. We carry an eclectic range of wines that some may pigeon hole in unde nable terms like‘ne wine’, ʼnatural wine’, ‘organic wine’, ‘bio-dynamic’ wine.

We just see them as ‘delicious wine’, made by real people who put their heart and soul into everything they do. Many of these producers release a small consignment of wine annually, and in some cases we are proud to be New Zealand's only supplier.

You can view details on our range here - perhaps treat yourself with a Barbaresco from Sottimano or beautiful bio-dynamic and natural wines from Austrian producers Gut Oggau.

We expect to receive our exclusive consignment from lauded Burgundy producers Caroline Morey and her husband Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey very soon. If you are keen to register your interest for these wines, or receive our current price list, please get in touch.
